The Mesoamerican Reef Leadership Program (MAR-L) is a key platform for scaling up conservation projects, strengthening capacities, and generating synergies between Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. In its 13 years of existence, it has trained 145 leaders and incubated more than 80 initiatives. In 2023, it concluded the preparation of its tenth generation with 21 leaders focused on strengthening ecological and community resilience in the region. Additionally, it held training modules on key topics such as entrepreneurship and finance and held mentoring sessions, accelerating the implementation of this year’s initiatives. Four intergenerational virtual meetings strengthened knowledge sharing and personal development, contributing significantly to the health of the Mesoamerican Reef System, and benefiting more than two million people who depend on the reef’s health.
