The Fire and Restoration Management Fund (FOMAFUR, acronym in Spanish) has played a key role in addressing forest fires and promoting fire management education. It has supported 108 projects from 54 local and community entities, extending its fire protection and management actions to 35 protected areas and their areas of influence. In 2023, FOMAFUR completed 12 initiatives that improved the capacity of mixed community brigades through training and equipment, and field partners established preventive measures such as firebreaks. In June 2023, the XII Meeting of the Fire Management Learning Community was held in the Sierra de Manantlán, strengthening the capacity to conduct prescribed burns and monitor the effects of fire on ecosystems, with the collaboration of key institutions such as the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP, acronym in Spanish), the Intermunicipal Board of the Ayuquila River and the University of Guadalajara. FMCN launched a call for proposals, and, after an external evaluation, the Sustainable Management Committee selected nine initiatives to be funded between 2024 and 2025.
