In 2023, the River Restoration for Climate Change Adaptation (RÍOS, acronym in Spanish) project, also led by the National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change (INECC, acronym in Spanish) and executed by FONNOR (Northwestern and Western Fund) and the Gulf of Mexico Fund (FGM, acronym in Spanish), focused on protecting biodiversity, restoring riparian zones and improving water quality in the watershed of the Ameca-Mascota River in Jalisco and the Jamapa River watershed in Veracruz. In terms of community participation, 1,841 producers carried out restoration activities on 1,887 hectares and participated in community monitoring of water quality and quantity to analyze the impact of intervention strategies. The design committee of the National Strategy for River Restoration (ENRR, acronym in Spanish), composed of nine federal government institutions, outlined the technical bases of this strategy.
