The Restoring Watersheds for Ecosystems and Communities (ORIGEN, acronym in Spanish) project aims to generate environmental and socio-economic benefits through the restoration of degraded landscapes using a comprehensive watershed approach. Currently in the preparation phase, ORIGEN is expected to be implemented between 2025-2030 in the coastal watersheds of Chiapas, Jalisco, and Veracruz and in pilot watersheds in Guerrero, Nayarit, and Oaxaca. This project aims to scale up lessons learned and complement existing interventions, working hand in hand with the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP, acronym in Spanish), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRICULTURA, in Spanish ), and the respective state governments; and intends to build on the experiences and successes of precursor projects such as Coastal Watershed Conservation in the Context of Climate Change (C6, acronym in Spanish), Connecting Watershed Health with Sustainable Livestock and Agroforestry Production (CONECTA, acronym in Spanish), and River Restoration for Climate Change Adaptation (RÍOS, acronym in Spanish) by integrating their findings for a more effective and sustainable restoration.
