In 2023, the Mesoamerican Reef Conservation project has made significant progress in strengthening local capacity and protecting biodiversity. Since 2015, the project has promoted economic and social progress in Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras through 38 key initiatives. These include the implementation of sustainable tourism practices, waste management, economic valuation of ecosystem services and coral restoration, contributing to the well-being of reef communities and addressing the challenges of climate change. Furthermore, they promote more inclusive and participatory governance in the conservation of marine and coastal protected areas.
